‘We want it to become the norm that scientists work with fishermen to conduct fisheries research, and for the fishing industry stakeholders and scientists to be considered valuable partners in the policy-making process,’ said Steve Mackinson, from the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science in the UK, in an interview in the Horizon, EU Research & Innovation Magazine recently.
Matís, along with partners in Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom and the Netherlands, took part in a project called WhiteFish , a EU FP7 project. The project is focused on developing methods to evaluate the environmental effects of fish products, from the time of fishing until consumption.
