Matis, the Icelandic Food and Biotech R&D institute, in collaboration with WSI the International Association for Women in the Seafood Industry has launched the first worldwide video contest portraying women working in the seafood industry.
The results was astounding, with 14 high quality short films received from 12 countries in four continents. A large array of situations have been depicted, showing successes and difficulties, at producing, processing, at participating to the decision and policy making arenas. These vivid testimonies confirm, if needed, the high and diverse contribution of women in the industry.
Carmen Pedroza Guttierez, from Mexico, is the creator of the film which has been selected as the winning video by the Jury. With just one movement all along the film, filleting fish, she shows simply and forcefully how vital this is for women in this community. Women from all ages tell what this job means to them. Carmen will receive an invitation to the World Seafood Congress 2017 in Iceland – including flight and registration fee.
Top five videos are listed at www.womeninseafood.com. All videos will be shown during the WSC 2017 and on the WSI stand during the Icelandic fisheries fair.
