The winner of the first ever Women in Seafood Video Competition was chosen last summer
Matís, in collaboration with the International Association for Women in the Seafood Industry (WSI), has launched the first worldwide video contest portraying women working in the seafood industry.
The results were astounding, with 14 high quality short films received from 12 countries in four continents. A large array of situations has been depicted, showing successes and difficulties, during production and processing within the seafood industry. These vivid testimonies confirm the high and diverse contribution of women in the industry.
Carmen Pedroza-Guttierez, from Mexico, is the creator of the film which was selected as the winning video by a panel from Matís and WSI. Carmen received an invitation to the World Seafood Congress 2017 in Iceland – including flight and registration fee.
Top five videos are listed at www.womeninseafood.com. All videos were shown during the WSC 2017 and at the WSI stand during the Icelandic fisheries fair.
The Women in Seafood Video Competition serves as a platform to share stories of women in the seafood industry to bring attention to gaps and challenges as well as encourage a stronger, global collaboration of Women in Seafood and progress in the seafood industry as a whole. The future of the competition has been guaranteed as WSI has committed to run the competition, with technical assistance from Matís, for at least another two years.
